Emergency Communications Center

The Emergency Communications Center is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all wire line and wireless non-emergency and 911 (emergency) calls within the City of Suffolk. It is comprised of 23 Communications Operators, 5 Communications Lead Operator Supervisors, and a PSAP Manager. Law enforcement officers, firefighters, rescue personnel and citizens rely on this unit to provide accurate and timely information and/or service to meet their individual needs. The Communications Operators must be able to prioritize, plan and multi-task to accomplish the desired result, which is excellent customer service for both internal and external customers. The Emergency Communications Center continues receiving text-to-911 calls. This new technology allows those in need of emergency services to use their cellular device to contact 911 when they are unable to place a voice call to 911.
